Mapping a Value Stream with the Perspective of Sustainability

Abstract : Companies align lean production and sustainability differently depending on organization model. Lean provides social foundation for sustainability and makes it possible to implement sustainability, and integrate lean and sustainability. The work presented here maps a current value stream with measures from different methodologies presented in the literature. The objective of this paper is to integrate sustainability measures with a traditional value stream mapping. Economic, environmental, and societal metrics are presented. The result indicates that the interest of the different metrics depends on the role within the organization.
