Enseignement et apprentissage de la statistique : entre un art pédagogique et une didactique scientifique

Abstract : The teaching and learning of statistics is an early problem even in the history of statistics. Events we could identify over the last 50 years show the recurrence of the question. The role of scientific societies as well as the role of educational institutions must be taken into account. From our perspective, we will focus explicitly on a SFdS landmark event: the 1st International French speaking Conference on the Teaching of Statistics as a snapshot which, even though limiting, provides information on the issue. We try to replace general reflections with specific contributions based on reflective practices. Our goal is to contribute to the analysis of the preparation in statistics starting from the way it is taught within pedagogical and didactical approaches to statistics, in relation to a fundamental epistemological question: how can the teaching and learning of statistics become the focus of scientific research leading to results that could be relevant to the practice of teaching in school classrooms? Our theoretical assumption is that the identification and description of difficulties and obstacles in learning statistics, starting from the analysis of identifiable mistakes, is a relevant research subject, which should not exclude the specific aspects of the pedagogical relationship while mediation between human beings in well defined contexts and specific situations.
