Abstract : Internet of Things devices are physically closed to the end user but suffer from poor execution environments. By contrast, cloud computing provides effective virtualization of data and services, but without the user fine-grained context vision. We emphasize that next smartphone generations are the universal interface between these two worlds. Existing approaches generally use ad hoc architectures and a predefined execution environment and focus only on the optimization between the smartphone and the cloud. We propose a service-oriented middleware approach where smartphones are the gateway link between IoT and Cloud services.
