Motion estimation on ocean satellite images by data assimilation in a wavelets reduced model

Abstract : This research concerns the issue of estimating surface motion from satellite images. The approach relies on a reduced model, obtained by Galerkin projection of dynamic equations on subspaces of velocity and image fields. The dynamics expresses the transport of image brightness and advection-diffusion of velocity. A data assimilation method is defined that assimilates image coefficients in the reduced model in order to estimate motion coefficients.
