Abstract : This article presents some of the results from a doctoral research study on measures of central tendency and dispersion in high school Mathematics programs and textbooks in Brazil and France. We seek to compare Mathematics programs with Mathematics textbooks by observing the effects on the way that the books are organized. We identified what measures of central tendency and dispersion are presented in the programs of Brazil and France, besides other elements of the programs that served as a basis for analyzing the textbooks. The results indicated the effects of the programs on the differences observed between the collections analyzed. When we compared the French collections we observed a smaller dispersion, while in the Brazilian collections, differences from one collection to another are larger. This also has effects on how the measures of central tendency and dispersion are presented. These are better organized in the French school manuals.
