Abstract : Consumer focused e-Health systems will provide a broader spectrum of health consumers with timely, cost-effective and relevant services that will ultimately lead to a greater quality of life. This is the promise (or hope) that is increasingly being heard from health informatics researchers and practitioners. This paper looks at the characteristics of a particular minority group, namely high-functioning adults with Asperger Syndrome. It considers opportunities and risks associated with the worldwide web that has been identified in the literature and relates its implications for this community. Finally the paper concludes with some reflections on the questions that need to be answered.
