Abstract : In this research, we analyzed the use of central tendency and dispersion measures as tools to compare one or more sets of data in the books of mathematical didactics in high schools in Brazil and France. We considered that one way of developing the concept of central tendency measure and dispersion is to use these measures as a comparison tool. We used the theoretical contribution of the conceptual fields theory. Despite the importance of these measures as comparison tools, the results have shown limits in the didactical books selected both in Brazil and France. Considering that these measures might be used in various situations in the area of work or of citizenship formation, among others, the limitations found could have repercussions in the student’s training.
