Development of a Strategic Model for Freight Transportation with a Case Study of the Far East

Abstract : Developing a strategic model has become a major concern for decision-makers owing to free trade agreements (FTAs), environmental pollution and the risk of changing route conditions. The main purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of these factors by measuring the performance of a complete transportation solution in terms of cost, delivery time and environmental impact. To solve the problem within reasonable time, the proposed model was linearized and solved by using the software ILOG OPL. This study also compared the optimal solutions under four different configurations. The proposed model may be useful for both exporting companies and government agencies as a tool for evaluating the benefits of new alternative routes.
