Combining a DDES model with a dynamic variational multiscale formulation

Abstract : This paper studies the improvement of DDES models by locally replacing the LES-like component with a Dynamic Variational Multiscale model. Improvements are measured for flow around cicular cylinders at Reynolds numbers ranging from 20000 to 1 million and for tandem cylinders (from a distance between the cylinders of 3.7 diameters up to 12 diameters).
