Educar Pela Pesquisa, Educar Pelo Jogo: O Role-Playing Game (RPG) Como Estratégia Na Prática Docente No Ensino Superior

Abstract : Education is essential in practically every society. It is one of the ways in which reality can be transformed. Aiming to support teachers and students in the enhancement of their learning, we discuss in this article the union between two pedagogical approaches: to educate through research and to educate through the game. In general, games are mentioned in the educational context related to Early Childhood Education, so we discussed in this article how it is possible to use them in Higher Education, aimed at young people and adults. To accomplish that, the Role-playing Game (RPG) was chosen, a type of spoken game, in which the characters are created and interpreted by the players, in a kind of improvised theater. We believe that teaching through research can be a teaching strategy used in the construction of games of the RPG type, associating elements of entertainment to the practice of teaching. We discuss in this work a way of taking the game to the classroom to generate learning, but not only through the act of playing, but also through the construction of the game itself. The practice of teaching through research can be used in the necessary foundation for the design of the plot and the setting of the games. Thus, we believe that – while it is possible to use RPG as a pedagogical tool to teach content – having the opportunity to build games, stories and adventures can be as profitable as the very act of playing.
