A finite element method to solve the compressible Navier-Stokes equations in 3D with mesh enrichment procedure

Abstract : A new computer code solving the compressible Navier-Stokes equations is described. The code solve the three-dimensional (3D), time-independant equations using the finite element method based on the P1-P1isoP2 element. Actually the numerical stability is ensured by a simple artificial viscosity method which will be improved in a future version. The results of numerical experiments for the flow around an ellipsoid will be presented in order to show the possibilities of the methods used. Finally, we discuss an efficient mesh enrichment procedure which can be used in 2 or 3 dimension.
