Using a compound approach based on elaborated neural network for Webometrics: an example issued from the EICSTES project

Abstract : Because the basic analysis of links used in Webometrics is subject to several weaknesses, like the lack of link typology, it appears to be more secure to base this kind of analysis on the use of compound approaches. Following this idea, the compound approach we propose in this paper consists in combining domain and links clusterisation for performing Webometrics. Our approach relies on the MultiSOM model that represents a significant extension of the classical Kohonen SOM neural model. The MultiSOM neural-based tool introduces the concepts of viewpoints and dynamics into the information analysis with its multi-maps displays and its inter-map communication process. The dynamic information exchange between maps can be exploited by an analyst in order to perform cooperative deduction between several different analyses that have been performed on the same data.
