Abstract : This article gives an informal account of the theory, algorithms, software tools, and applications of polynomial elimination. It covers most of the important ideas, methods, and up-to-date advances on classical resultants, sparse elimination, triangular/characteristic sets, Gröbner bases, matrix eigenproblems, and homotopy continuation. A selected bibliography is provided for the reader to access the rich literature on the subject.
