Abstract : This article describes the reproduction of a complex drawing in descriptive geometry. The original plate was published by Théodore Olivier in 1842 and represents the meshing of two gears on skew axes. The drawing was analyzed and redone in MetaPost, and the construction illustrates a number of typical features of that programming environment.
