Abstract : We propose to determine the optimal wait interval that a printer must respect before entering sleep mode. To this end, we introduce a criterion defined by a compromise between power consumption and user impact. The optimal wait interval is inferred by minimizing this criterion. Our approach requires an appropriate statistical modeling of inter-print submission events. Initially, inter-print intervals are supposed to be independent and the optimal wait interval is inferred accordingly. Following this, a hidden Markov chain is used to model print event dependencies due to specific activity states like business hours or night periods.
