Advanced City Cars, PRT and cybercars: Potential Applications of Automated Individual Public Transportation Systems in Europe

Résumé

The CityMobil project seeks to improve the urban mobility by studying the impact of Advanced City Cars, PRT and cybercars in different European cities. Three cities will host large-scale demonstrators, and a second group of cities will host smaller research activities: showcases, city-studies and small demonstrations. The sites selected by CityMobil have given a better knowledge of the potential of Advanced Public Transportation Systems (APTS), Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) and Cybernetic Transportation Systems (CTS) applications in European cities. Most of the selected cities intend to complement the existing collective transportation systems with advanced individual public transportation systems. This paper deals with the detailed description of the selected urban contexts where these systems will be studied and an initial typology of potential APTS - PRT - CTS applications in Europe.
