Abstract : In this report we propose a new variational method to isolate points in a $2$-dimensional image. To this purpose we introduce a suitable functional whose minimizers are given by the points we want to detect. Then in order to provide numerical experiments we approximate this energy by means of a sequence of more treatable functionals by using a $\Gamma$-convergence approach.
