A robust variational method for the acoustic-to-articulatory problem

Abstract : This paper presents a novel acoustic-to-articulatory inversion method based on an articulatory synthesizer and variational calculus, without the need for an initial trajectory. Validation in ideal conditions is performed to show the potential of the method, and the performances are compared to codebook based methods. We also investigate the precision of the articulatory trajectories found for various acoustic vectors dimensions. Possible extensions are discussed.
