Abstract : The effects of overwelming experience on cognitions related to self efficacy and perception of an understandable world are particularly strong. Adaptation is impeded by aggressiveness and spontaneous somatic activation. A group of PTSD patients (N=20) paired with a control group (N=20) for gender, age and profession has been assessed in terms of aggressiveness (Buss and Perry) and general psychopathology (HSCL) before and after two sessions of cognitive therapy. Following results would be taken into account by the therapeutic options: PTSD patients scored higher on physical aggression and general psychopathology; men and women expressed aggressiveness differently; variations in evolution of aggressiveness and general psychopathology were noted according to profession; hostility could be a marker of the persistence of psychopathology.
