Abstract : This chapter illustrates how the syntactical method allows building of a flexible general recognition system. The class of inputs here is two-dimensional line drawings. For this purpose we designed in our laboratory a system called MIRABELLE. From a model and a graphic tablet input the system is able to recognize a hand-drawn sketch and to provide labeling of each of its part.
