Cars detection and tracking with a vision sensor

Abstract

In this article, a visual sensor combining a short fixed focal length camera and a PTZ (Pan Tilt Zoom) camera is described. The works presented here deal with process for cars detection and tracking using this vision sensor. These algorithms have been tested in real driving situations with a PC embedded into the experimental vehicle of the laboratory named VELAC. Front vehicles can be detected and tracked up to 140 meters with our sensor.
