Our experience in logical IR modeling

Abstract : Since 1978, the information retrieval team in Grenoble has began a work in Information Retrieval area from French natural language analysis to logical modeling of IR and multimedia data. The logical approach in itself was a step in the will to formalize experiences the team has gained with the first prototype IOTA. The logical model was then introduced to promote the formalization of IR modeling. We have then work within the idea of theoretical modeling IR and prototyping with an instantiation of this theoretical model. For this purpose we have investigate the use of semantic trees and Conceptual Graph formalism for index and queries representation.
