What palm-up gestures can tell us about language development: Focus on multimodal negation

We address the expression of negation in four longitudinal follow-ups that include signed and spoken interactions. Each child combines symbolic categories and visual/aural modalities in connexion with her own linguistic environment. Our physiological study of palms-up and index-wave gestures underlines systematic properties at the junction of coverbal gestures and signs.
