Abstract : This article describes a hitherto unknown adding machine by Jean-Baptiste Schwilgué (1776-1856). This machine is a column adder, and it uses only three keys. Probably dated from the early 1840s, it may be one of the oldest, and perhaps even the oldest key-driven calculating machine in existence.
