Abstract : This paper presents the design, implementation, and evaluation of a new technique aimed to reduce the number of interrupts due to transmitted packets in the parallel network subsystem . This technique combines interrupt and polling modes and relies on support in the Network Interface Controller --- per-processor transmit queues --- for distributing processing of transmission notifications among processors. Our prototype implementation on Linux and Myrinet yields performance gains of 16 on a 4-processor machine running a web server application.
