Abstract : In this report, we present a proxy-based framework for dynamic adaptation in distributed multimedia applications. This proxy can be configured to perform adaptations of multimedia data in real time. Proxy adaptations can be used to manage QoS according to the resources of the underlying environment (capacity of the user terminal or of the network), or to personali- ze (or extend) the functions of the application. We present the motivations for this approach, the implementation of the framework (based on the Microsoft DirectShow environment) and a performance evaluation that demonstrates the effectiveness of the approach.
