Abstract : We present a Markov model for agricultural successions with 4 states. The application of Markov models to agricultural succession problems is not new, but relatively new tools of numerical Bayesian inference allow us to test general prior laws. I addition to the maximum likelihood estimate, we consider the Jeffreys prior (non-informative), and calculate the associated Bayesian estimator with a Metropolis-Hastings approximation procedure. We study the capabilities and limitations of this approach.
