Abstract : CSCL research brings together different perspectives from human sciences and computer science. This paper presents some reflections, from the standpoint of a computer scientist, on the increasingly problematic coexistence between the “CS part” (“computer support part” or “computer science part”) and the “CL part” (“collaborative learning part”). Difficulties arise from both a divergent understanding of the role of technology in the discipline and from huge differences in the way research works are evaluated in the two parts. The paper provides suggestions on how to create more synergistic cooperation between CS and CL parts in CSCL.
