Abstract : Series Multicell Converters, introduced in the 90's, provide several degrees of freedom, such as the distribution of the DC bus voltage over the switches and the improvement of the output voltage harmonics. The internal capacitor voltages must be balanced to specific values in order to ensure the proper functioning of this topology. PWM techniques allow such a balancing and provide well performances in steady-state, but favor the slow variations. In this paper, a simple sliding modes based control strategy, well suited to transient and steady-state, is proposed.
