Trefftz-DG Approximation for the Elasto-Acoustics

Abstract : Discontinuous finite element methods have proven their numerical accuracy and flexibility, but they are still criticised for high number of degrees of freedom used for computation. The Trefftz approach provides a way to overcome these difficulties. The particularity of Trefftz-type methods is in special choice of basis functions: they represent the local solutions of the initial equations. Thus in case of time-dependent problems it requires a space-time mesh. The approach has been widely used with time-harmonic formulations, while for reproducing a temporal phenomena the studies are very limited. In the present work we develop the theory for the method application in case of coupled acousto-elastic systems. We show the results of numerical tests for the first-order acoustic wave propagation system.
